About Ivy Cottage
Take a walk down the Flitch Way, alongside the old railway line, and as well as the chirrup of the birds in the trees you may well see the honeybees of Ivy Cottage Bees, working hard collecting the pollen and nectar from the wildflowers of the Flitch Way and pollinating the crops of our local farmers.
Ivy Cottage Bees, recently established as a local business, has grown out of the love and passion for the hobby of beekeeping. Head beekeepers, Michelle and Trevor Shenston, have kept bees for over eight years and are keen to pass on their knowledge and expertise, as well as their passion for these wonderful, extraordinary, essential insects to budding beginners and other members of the public who are keen to explore the world of the honeybee further.
Situated on the borders of Hertfordshire and Essex, Ivy Cottage Bees benefits from the excellent arable farming and countryside flowers which help their bees turn the nectar into golden honey. The location is ideal for visitors to the apiary on beekeeping taster and experiences days. This wonderful location also affords Michelle and Trevor the opportunity to travel with their bees to local country fairs and events where they can take a colony of bees safely ensconced in an observation hive for all to see.
